Watch FIONN outrun the Glam Reaper in spooktabulous music video for ‘I MIGHT START SMOKING!!’
Double, double toil and trouble, FIONN, the Vancouver twin duo, star alongside the Glam Reaper in their new “I MIGHT START SMOKING!!” music video! After a terrifying tarot card reading gone wrong, the sisters face their own demise and must outrun death itself. Will they survive such an unlikely fate or will they meet a few unexpected rock legends? Only those who watch will find out! Directed by Matt Miller, the spook-tabulous music video was filmed in Pitt Meadows, and locations around Vancouver, BC.
“At the beginning of the video, we pull a few unexpected tarot cards, which when read literally, mean the grim reaper will be knocking on our door in t-minus ten seconds. Unfortunately for us, this magic deck of tarot cards sends us on the run from death, but leaves us destined to meet two token 70s rock stars in a fun fever dream along the way,” says Fionn.
“I MIGHT START SMOKING!!” is the deliciously electric alternative version of Fionn‘s album title track “I Might Start Smoking.” About an identity crisis, and setting off smoke alarms everywhere, this special alt-rock version showcases Alanna and Brianne Finn-Morris‘ rebellious flair. With charisma in spades, it is no doubt one of their most formidable releases to date. Making CBC Music’s “5 Songs You Need To Hear This Week” and for fans of Avril Lavigne, Olivia Rodrigo and The Olsen Twins, it follows the release of their third studio album I Might Start Smoking which hit shelves globally in June of this year via 604 Records. Vinyl copies of the record are now available on the 604 Records shop!

With over 3.6 million cumulative streams, 2.1 million YouTube video views, the cover of Next Magazine, a CBC Top 20 and Top 50 Alternative Rock single “TAKE ME OUT!” under their belts, Fionn are ones to keep an eye on. They have an incredible knack for songwriting that truly shines on their third studio album, I Might Start Smoking. Sparkling with the lyrical prowess of Taylor Swift and the rebellious attitude of Avril Lavigne, the sexy 12-track album features infectious bangers including, “Leo”, “Goldfish”, and “18”. Call it a full-circle record for the alt-rock duo, they revisit the sound and spirit of their heralded first releases, though their path to this point has been anything but predictable. After all, the twin sisters only dropped their self-titled debut in 2018, though they’ve been quite prolific since, developing a songwriting palette and penchant in a few short years that even career artists would kill for.
“I Might Start Smoking sums up our second coming of age. We’ve found our early adulthood comparable to a brand-new form of childhood dizzying us with fresh experiences and chaotic emotions. We started working on this record over a year ago in our hometown White Rock, BC with Jared Maneirka. We made as many demos as we could and added only our favourites to a ‘quality folder’. We also spent hours in Max Cunningham’s home studio writing the title track while trying to find ways to lace Celtic accents into our alternative pop/rock creations. We then made it back to 604 studios (our second home) to write a few songs with our long-standing collaborator Kevvy Maher screaming angsty backup vocals and playing around with electric guitar tones, throwing it back to when we made our 2020 EP ‘Everyone’s a Critic,” explains Fionn.
Put simply, their new album finds the sisters intentionally limiting their palette but painting with the deft strokes and dynamism typically adopted from decades of experience. It’s still catchy as hell, relying on musicianship, authenticity, and songwriting acumen for hooks instead of transient high-tech tools. Revisiting the pure, undiluted creative prowess that propelled them to fame in the first place.
Fionn placed second in CBC Music’s Toyota Searchlight 2022 competition and received placements on various international playlists including Spotify’s “It’s A Bop”, “New Music Friday”, Indie All Stars, Friday Cratediggers and Amazon Music’s Fresh Finds. The sisters also made waves receiving praise from internationally acclaimed media outlets with Exclaim Magazine calling the duo, “one of Exclaim!’s favourite emerging Canadian artists,” and Billboard stating, “their achingly honest lyrics and well-balanced harmonies are undeniably seasoned”. They’ve also seen praise from the likes of American Songwriter, Condé Naste, LADYGUNN, EARMILK, Modern Neon and more.
