Every year the same misery… at least it’s sort of a good thing: too much great music being released the whole year through. Those people who dare to say that new music can’t offer anything good, interesting or creative anymore, just have their ears clogged up. So I underwent the difficult task of sifting though the releases I’ve listened to, reviewed, didn’t check out yet, possibly missed,… to figure out who was going to get a spot in my 10 best albums of the year 2018 and here it is!
Honorable Mentions | Top EP’s | 10 – 7 | 6 – 4 | 3 – 2 | 1 |
6. Alghazanth – Eight Coffin Nails
Alghazanth proves with their very last release Eight Coffin Nails that you don’t have to add huge symphonics or massive choirs to make your music sound epic. The smartly and intricately crafted composition in each track makes the cold and raw black metal sound shine in all its glory, making it sound beautiful yet still evil as fuck. Talk about going out while you’re at your peak! For my full review go here.

5. Trollheims Grott – Aligned with the True Death
The music on Trollheims Grott‘s ‘Aligned With The True Death‘ holds very strong. The industrial parts have taken a step back for more straightforward black metal compared to their older work, but if you look for it you will notice the subtle additions of electronics and noises to amplify the aggression & coldness of the tracks. There are a few real stompers on this album that to my feeling are absolutely relentless and the perfect soundtrack for getting geared up for war! For my full review go here.
4. Author & Punisher – Beastland
Author & Punisher is simply something you have to experience yourself. Black Sabbath always claimed that their doomy sound came from their urge to recreate the sounds of the machines at the factories they or their families worked at, Tristan absolutely perfected that creative output to the teeth. “Beastland” will grab you, get you to fear death by machine and keep you too captivated to actually run for your life. The best representation of the perfect symbiosis of man and machine! For my full review go here.
