The Dread Crew Of Oddwood share new single ‘Give Me Your Beer’
We’re just over two weeks from the arrival of Rust & Glory, the fifth album from Southern California’s rogue heavy mahogany faction THE DREAD CREW OF ODDWOOD, set to pillage everything in sight March 15th. Today, a final warning shot from the album has been fired, with Ghost Cult Magazine hosting the straightforward acoustic shredder, “Give Me Your Beer.”
Since 2008, THE DREAD CREW OF ODDWOOD has stormed shores across the globe, steadily becoming one of the biggest independent folk metal acts in the world. Armed exclusively with acoustic instruments, Wolfbeard O’Brady, Stark Cordwain, Deckard Cordwain, and Pistol(s) Pete infuse the raw energy of heavy metal with Celtic and European folk into their signature sound, telling tales of comrades lost, bloody sieges, drunken debauchery, and all manner of villainous misadventures. They’ve delivered their music to dancing, moshing, drinking, and partying land lubbers across North America, the British Isles, and Western Europe, accumulating a commendable cult following in metal and folk music communities alike.
Rust & Glory is a thirteen-song treasure-trove of all-acoustic rippers which present a finely honed sound and creative voice that is truly unlike anything else in the metal scene today. From anthems like “Lawful Evil” and “Leather Ship” to drinking songs like “Give Me Your Beer” and “Corpse Juice Medley,” the album is sure to get heads banging, feet stomping, and audiences singing across the globe.
Recorded at Seahorse Sound Studios in Los Angeles, THE DREAD CREW OF ODDWOOD enlisted the help of fellow folk metal musician Anna Murphy (Cellar Darling, ex-Eluveitie) who engineered, produced, and mixed the record, her input and expertise helping push Rust & Glory forward as the finest collection of songs the band has created to date. Several guests joined the party, with double bass by Bass Princess, hurdy gurdy by Anna Murphy, and additional vocals by Anna Murphy and Madison Lowery. As with their prior album, mastering duties were again handled by Svante Forsbäck (Rammstein, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum), and artist Mark Gibbons (Blizzard Entertainment, Games Workshop, Rookery Publications) delivered another stunning cover painting.
The band writes,
“Regarding the tale of ‘Give Me Your Beer’ One nautical warrior traversed sea and land pillaging all in sight and demanding the finest ales across the globe. Retired, they died, went to hell, and demanded the Devil’s beer too! You only pirate always, right?! Melodic charms throughout this song will be stuck in your head forever. And it features our very own Deckard Cordwain on lead vocals, also! Needless to say, we think you’ll enjoy this pirate powered pilsner pounding polka party. Now without further ado…give us your beer!”
