Lists
After the team sent in their top lists at the end of last year, and calculating the results, we got to an interesting “albums of the year 2023” list featuring releases from Marduk, Kludde, Blink-182, Blackbraid, Orbit Culture, Gloryhammer, Ne Obliviscaris, Hypno5e, Periphery, Dying Fetus, Obituary, Avatar, Svalbard, VV and Sleep Token! Do you agree with any of these? What did you have in your top list?
Our resident extreme metal reviewer Mazen has a selection of stellar (mostly) black and death metal releases as his favorite of the year with Sulphur Aeon, Varathron, Moonlight Sorcery, Cruciamentum, Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Asphodelus, Marduk, …And Oceans, and Cirith Ungol!
Album Reviews
Marduk’s fifteenth studio album “Memento Mori” perfectly fits with the raw aesthetics of the band. In terms of quality and songwriting the ten tracks offer sinister and furious black metal, this is one of the band’s best albums and is set for release this Friday via Century Media Records!
Deus Mortem’s “Kosmocide” is a great album for those who like their black metal played fast and catchy at the same time!
Nordjevel’s Necrogenesis is a remarkable album that focuses on the musical ability of these North men who have unleashed one of the best black metal albums in 2019.
Sulphur Sovereign is mastered by sharp riffs and it’s sacrilegiously brutal and extremely evil.
If Marduk’s “Frontschwein” generally possessed the fierce and brutal elements, then “Viktoria” has managed to proceed as a natural continuation to its prior.
Hekatomb is without doubt a vicious inferno of the wicked and Funeral Mist has inevitably set the bar high on the new studio album.
Belgian black metal outfit Ars Veneficium released their first full length upon the masses, stabbing your eardrums with furious blastbeats!
