Solfatare set release date for debut album and reveal first track

Signal Rex announced May 2nd as the international release date for Solfatare‘s highly anticipated debut album, Asservis par l’espoir, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Trapped between barren cobblestones and leaden sky, Solfatare emerge from the sullen maze of the Brussels region. Their moniker refers to a type of volcanic fume, heavily laden with sulfur. This name finds its origin in a specific volcano from the Phlegraean Fields region of Italy, believed by ancient Romans to be a mythological entrance to the underworld. Dormant for centuries, this area’s recent volcanic activity has raised concerns within the scientific community, as a potential eruption could plunge all of Europe into darkness and desolation.

This feeling of Damoclean looming menace and internal turmoil, intrinsic to existence, is what Solfatare want to convey through their music: the churning magma, the fire of frustration, ready to erupt, longing for flames engulfing the Tartarus punishments.

Born from sleepless nights and plagued by a dizzying lucidity, Solfatare are at last ready to unveil their first full-length. Aptly titled Asservis par l’espoir (English: “Enslaved by Hope”), this debut album explores the depths of existential anguish and plunges into humanity’s long-lasting quest of meaning…only to find none. Between poetic exaltation and absolute despondency, Solfatare defiantly embrace the absurd, wielding French poetry as a weapon of absolute lyricism, in an attempt to adorn our torment. After all, should one not imagine Sisyphus smiling, despite knowing what lies ahead.

The music of Solfatare draws from the roots of traditional black metal while embracing a more avant-garde touch, weaving dissonance, glorious melodies, and visceral riffs into an unrelenting journey toward the heights of despair. Blending ferocious aggression with haunting atmospheres, Solfatare deliver a gritty introspection and offer a personal reflection on existence. Enslave thyself with Asservis par l’espoir!
