Tasting
After turning on some Slayer tunes and pouring our first glass, we admire a wine with a shiny garnet color with shades of lighter red and bordeaux. Turning the glass we notice little viscosity of the liquid on our glassware. The aroma hinted at berries with some spices in the background.
The first sips in your mouth are intensely sweet, gather a lot of of red fruits and the distinct flavor of Cabarnet Sauvignon grapes with notes of blackcurrant and a hint of oak. Aftertaste comes as a punch with lots of dry tannins. The flavors come and go quite rapidly, leaving you with a thirst for more. So beware, you might find yourself sipping this vintage quite intensely.
While the site currently sells the 2014 vintage we got to tasting the 2010 harvest. Might have been a little too old for this wine, but this might also be due to our personal preference of younger wines.
Packaging
The bottle is closed with a twist cap instead of a more traditional cork. The cap is decorated with Slayer’s pentagram logo and blood effects that drip over on the bottle’s black label. With its dark background the iconic silver eagle makes the wine easily recognizable for fans. Another fun twist in the packaging are the words ‘Reign In Blood Red’ written as an inverted cross. An amusing lay-out that returns on the backside of the bottle.
This visually pleasing packaging is most likely due to the fact that Slayer’s Cabernet Sauvignon is another product of the Swedish Brands for Fans. The commercial description on the bottle reads:
The wine is as uncompromising as the band. After a couple of Seasons in the Abyss, it has an undisputed attitude and a soft nose of dark berry fruits with oak and spicy nuances. Fresh fruitiness, smooth tannins and well structured with subtle notes of oak, showing true Divine Intervention. Best company for the wine comes as no surprise, enjoy it while headbanging, riffing or with food, friends and great music. Reign in Wine!
