2017 has been an amazing year for everyone who likes rock, punk, metal and hardcore. It almost seemed an impossible task to select only the best albums that were released this year. That is why we let our whole editorial team pick 10 of their own favourite albums. This was the only way to compile a comprehensive list of the 50 best albums of last year. The list was of course much longer than just these 50 works of art but in the end we had the difficult choice to choose only the very best. Here you can see all of them in the right order.

3) Wolves in the Throne Room – Thrice Woven
With their latest release Thrice Woven Wolves in the Throne Room return to that earlier sound and feeling of Cascadian black metal. Back is the rawness and pureness that takes you back to the destructive beauty that is nature. Despite the fact that the album may not hold the same enticing and bewildering sound throughout, it’s still of a higher quality than a lot of their peers. Especially the first 2 tracks are strong with their layered black metal and guest appearances from Anna von Hausswolff and Steve Von Till from Neurosis. An epic work of black metal that’ll take you away from this world of materialism and superficiality. (for the full review go here)
2) Leprous – Malina
Our Norwegian progrock friends from Leprous got a new one for the world with Malina. Known for the unique sound they achieve, a sound which is not easy to get a hold on: it is not really metal and it is not really rock. So should we call it progressive metal with rock influences or the other way around? After being the backing band for the solo project of Ihsahn (frontman of legendary black metal band Emperor), they’ve been making a name for themselves and are proving yet again how talented they are. They fine-tuned their sound even further, but managed to keep it sound organic and natural. Atmospheric with impressive musicianship and arrangements, they haven’t necessarily delivered big surprises or changes, but still music of the highest quality… (for the full review go here)
