Liam Gallagher and John Squire announced their debut album and share a new single
The news that the Manchester icons, Liam Gallagher and John Squire, were working together on a new project, caused a wave of anticipation. The combination of the remarkable personality of the lead singer of Oasis with the guitar talents of the creative force behind The Stone Roses should be something exceptional. Their debut song ‘Just Another Rainbow’ confirmed the hype and reached number 16 on the UK singles chart and shot up to number 1 on the charts, which meant the highest charting single in fifteen years for Liam.
But that was just the start. Now Liam Gallagher and John Aquire are announcing their debut album that will see a release on March 1st and with the announcement comes the second single ‘Mars To Liverpool’. They also unveiled details on their first joined UK tour, shows in Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and the USA.
Liam says:
“I can’t wait for people to hear the album. I think the people that are into the Stone Roses and Oasis and that kinda thing, I think they’ll fucking love it. It’s spiritual, it’s crucial.”
John adds:
“It was really inspiring to have those Knebworth gigs fresh in my mind as I started writing. Then it was a case of trying to steer it away from all being too rocky, and trying to mix up the sentiments as well. I like the way that in some parts, it’s quite melancholic and it can make you well up, but there are other parts that are kind of irreverent, rude or crude. There’s a little bit of everything in there, I think it’s a really good mix. I had a hunch that we’d sound good together, but I wasn’t prepared for it to be such a good fit.”
Just like ‘Just Another Rainbow’, ‘Mars To Liverpool‘ delivers exactly what you’d expect from the duo. Catchy rock ‘n’ roll with an undertone of psychedelia from the 60s and shows John‘s inventive guitar playing – resounding riffs, flowing classic rock solos – around Liam‘s uplifting singing. Just like with their famous bands and solo work, ‘Mars To Liverpool’ brings an atmosphere of melancholy. Two fantastic singles that only grow the anticipation for the release of the full album.
Longtime friends with mutual admiration for each other’s work, the idea to collab began when John joined Liam on stage at his biblical Knebworth shows. Soon enough ideas for songs were flowing and the album got shape in Los Angeles with the reknown producer Greg Kurstin (Harry Styles, Lily Allen, Sia, Paul McCartney). He played bass on the whole album, while Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M., Atoms For Peace) took care of the drums.
The upcoming album is now available for pre-order. Fans who pre-order the album before 15:00 CET on Tuesday January 30th, are getting access to the presales of the tour tickets. The presales open on Wednesday 31st before the remaining tickets go in public sales on Friday February 2nd.
The tour will see Liam and John leading a band, completed with Barrie Cadogan (Little Barrie, Paul Weller) on bass and Joey Waronker on drums.
