Julie Christmas’ full Hellfest show available online now!
“The Good, The Bad and The Julie! Ms. CHRISTMAS is the combination of fire and ice, a tornado of emotion that is at once burning hot and freezing cold, with every whisper and every scream you know you are experiencing something transcendent. Microphone in hand she transforms the entire concert into an art space. It’s a living hallucination, melancholic, oppressive and nerve shattering. You’re not ready for this.” – Hellfest
In cooperation with Hellfest, JULIE CHRISTMAS‘ full live set from this year’s festival is available on YouTube HERE.
Julie comments:
“Hellfest is a make you or break you stage. So many great bands to be worse than, so many cool people to disappoint. A dream where YOU are the naked one. As I started to walk towards the stage, I could see the crowd. I could hear the special silence that thousands of excited, waiting people make, like an electrical hum. I also saw my best friends on stage waiting. Sound warriors biting at the bit and ready to get into it. It was then that I realized..fall down flat on my face, or best performance ever – NOTHING CAN BREAK ME, I’M JULIE CHRISTMAS. Thank you to Hellfest for letting us yell into that night. And most of all, thank you to the beautiful crowd. They were right there with us.”
Julie Christmas live band at Hellfest consisted of the same musicians who joined her on the new album, guitarist/ vocalist Johannes Persson (Cult of Luna), drummer Chris Enriquez (Spotlights), bassist Andrew Schneider (producer for Kenmode/Unsane etc), guitarist John LaMacchia (Candiria) and keyboardist Tom Tierney.
Julie performed at Hellfest on June 29, two weeks after the release of her latest album “Ridiculous And Full Of Blood” on RED CRK, which received praise from media worldwide.
Julie will be playing more shows in Europe in August, all dates:
09/08 – NO Oslo Oya Festival
10/08 – CZ Jaromer Brutal Assault
15/08 – UK Bristol Arctangent Festival
By the time Julie Christmas released her debut solo album The Bad Wife in 2010, the Brooklyn visionary was already one of the most lauded voices in alternative music. Her piercing pipes, as previously heard in noise rockers Made Out of Babies and post-metal supergroup Battle of Mice, earned critical acclaim. Then, that goodwill was consolidated by her first standalone statement and now she has returned with album two, Ridiculous and Full of Blood.
Her new album is a heart-on-sleeve chapter-by-chapter storybook of the conflicting elements of her own character, is the most comprehensive declaration of this musician’s talents yet, spanning from alt-pop to post-metal with a staggering array of talent onboard. Guitarist/ vocalist Johannes Persson (Cult of Luna), drummer Chris Enriquez (Spotlights), bassist/producer Andrew Schneider (Kenmode/Unsane), guitarist John LaMacchia (Candiria) and keyboardist Tom Tierney were all paramount in bringing these new, genre-smashing tunes to life.
