King Satan is a band that is very familiar to our reporters in Finland, being a very strong presence on the live circuit there and a quite prolific band with a rather unique sound and concept. Since they were about to set out to tour Europe in support of Gothminister, including a stop at our very own Asgaard venue, we met up with main man and vocalist King Aleister Satan at a bar in Helsinki right before their show as support for the Deathstars show there to have a bit of a chat and somewhat introduce them to the people here who don’t know about them yet…
When we met up with King Aleister Satan at the bar, he told us that he was dealing with a bit of a hangover since they celebrated their first show the night before properly. Since their European tour had been postponed so often the past years, they want to really take it all in and enjoy it to the fullest. But he promised that once they’d hit the stage, you wouldn’t know they were hungover. Or even that he is suffering from a back injury due to a recent car accident. The adrenaline of performing live helps a lot!
Talking about those shows and the European tour with Gothminister, whenever you hit up a King Satan show, you can be sure of a high energy show that convinces people from across all different genres. He even referred to their current manager, who told them that even though she is usually into tech death and shouldn’t like them, for some reason their energy is infectious, and she loves what they do.
We also touched a bit on a 4th album that has been fully recorded and waiting to be released at a good time. While he mentioned in an earlier interview that the first 3 albums could be seen as a “Spiritual Anarchy” trilogy, and that they’re wrapping up that chapter, Aleister told us that the concept is still sticking around. He explained that the trilogy was somewhat of an in between piece, or introduction to his concept and vision, leading up to the album that he’s been wanting to make for a decade or more. He’s really excited about sharing the new work hopefully soon, because this piece of music is something that is very dear to him.
Going further on the “Spiritual Anarchy” concept, the King Satan music and lyrics are regularly liberating people from limiting thoughts or help them through tough times. Which is something that is unbelievable for Aleister, and they’re honored and humbled by the fact that what they do with their music is actually having that much meaning for a lot of people. Especially since in the beginning a lot of people did not get what they were doing, to the point they even got death threats. But they pushed on, believing in what they did, along the way even declining quite some money for a record deal simply because they would have had to make changes.
Though apparently it’s still somehow not clear what King Aleister Satan’s ideology is, which has led them to make a mock apology on social media about the fact that it was a surprise to some people that he is a satanist. And at the same time, it was a social commentary on all the public apologies that have been made by celebrities that feel rather empty. Bringing that up, got Aleister to dive further in how he sees Satanism and what it could mean for someone, without telling us what is the right path. He doesn’t even share what school of Satanism he personally follows.
