Interview Starbenders – “We feel so grateful of everything we’ve done and accomplished over the years”

The American rock band Starbenders is a group of young people who have steadily grown in popularity with their uncompromising take on rock ‘n’ roll. They’ve been releasing some killer rock tracks, keeping the future of rock music bright and strong. Last year, they finally got to come oversees on their very first European tour as support for their label mates Palaye Royale, and now they’re back! A couple of headlining shows and a nice list of stops as special guests of Mothica… So when they were in our neighborhood to play a show at On The Rocks in Helsinki as the very first one of the tour, we arranged to have a chat with the band about their tour and music.

We met up with Kriss Tokaji (guitars) and Aaron Lecesne (bass) right before their show in Helsinki and talked about how great it is for them to be back in Europe again, and especially in Helsinki. The band absolutely loves the city, and they got to chill and discover some of it the day before, kind of helping in preventing them from having a jet lag, luckily. So all in all, they were feeling great: at the beginning of a cool tour, energized and ready to take on the world. The guys were really looking forward to touring with Mothica, feeling that her fans should resonate well with their music. They were also excited about getting back to the UK, which is a great country for a rock band like them.

Almost exactly a year ago, they released their latest album ‘Take Back the Night’ and that was another milestone for them, taking another big step in popularity and growth. When they started doing this almost a decade ago, they could have never imagined they’d get this far. Because what they were doing in their hometown Atlanta was off the beating path, which didn’t make it easy for them in the beginning, and they’re so grateful for what they have accomplished and feel so fortunate. They have been working on some new music already, of which we heard one of the new songs live for the very first time ever in Helsinki (and will be released on September 26). They’re really proud of what they have so far and are looking forward to sharing it with their fans.

Since they themselves struggled somewhat in the beginning as a band, we felt obliged to ask them if they had any recommendations of bands who deserve some more attention and recognition. And they came with Internet Islands, a band from Atlanta as well that they have discovered not too long ago and have invited to play at their hometown show at the end of November. So check that out!
