Recently a new rock entity from Finland rose to our attention: Ginger Evil started to release their first singles, and we really liked what we were hearing. And now they’re releasing their self-titled debut full-length album, on renown rock label Frontiers Music. Time to go and have a chat with the band about their road to where they are now, their first album and what’s in the future for them…

We met up with guitarist Tomi at a cosy bar in Helsinki, with him immediately saying how happy and proud he was about what they created with Ginger Evil on the debut album. When we had our talk, there were already reviews talking about it being one of the best rock albums of the past couple of decades and drawing comparisons to legendary rock acts, which made Tomi feel rather overwhelmed and humbled.

The main goal for Tomi and his bandmates, was to make some good music that lasts. There was no aim to make a hit song, just good solid rock songs taking elements from all the greats of the past and make it their own with a modern twist. They were already around since 2005, but it was especially when Ella joined on vocals that everything came together and the puzzle was completed. Tomi really feels that Ella being part of the band makes the difference, elevating them to a new level.

The music they wrote, even the early demos, really impressed quite some people, getting proper management and signed to renown rock label Frontiers Music. And for some of the songs on this album, they even collaborated with people like Richard Stanley, who used to work with The Who at some point. It feels almost like a dream to Tomi how the music they just wrote for themselves has gotten them to places. And now that the debut album finally is seeing the light of day, they are ready to really take off. They even have quite some songs ready for a next album!

We kept on chatting a bit more about what bands he’d love to tour with and how come bands just never get old, just go and have a listen to the rest of the conversation!
