GRIMM Gent wishes you a Happy Fucking New Year!
First of all, to all of you that have been reading articles on our site, came to gigs, volunteered to help or just supported us by becoming a member, bands, labels, venues and promoters that were willing to work with us: a big fucking thank you! GRIMM Gent isn’t just a webzine, it’s a community, an organization created by music fans for metalheads, rockers and any alternative soul on this planet. We want to be there for every player in the music world and lend our hand to support fans, (local) bands, promoters, organizers, venues, labels, bars,… in any way possible. Our site is just one cog in the machinery to get this working.
2016… it was a year with highs and lows, a lot of both. The music community and entertainment business in total lost a lot of big names to the Grim Reaper. But also a year with tons of impressive releases, gigs and festivals of which we’ve tried to cover as much as we could for you! We’ve managed to reach a count of over 5000 likes on our Facebook page, booked already over 100 bands for our events and clocked down a mind-blowing amount of 200,000 individual visitors on our site since its startup at the beginning of 2016! Now that we’re starting 2017, we thought to inform you of all the shit that is yet to come to you from us… so here we go:
Besides our monthly events and gigs at Kinkystar Music Center and Den Drummer in Gent, we can proudly say that we’ve opened our own metal and rock bar last night! “Asgaard” is the name and everyone is welcome at the end of every week to visit this Walhalla for lovers of the Guitar Riff… Cheap beer, mead, good music and even better company, what more do you want? Be sure to keep an eye on our calendar, cause we might book a band every now and then to let the foundations tremble (a first event got announced already with Dordeduh and others)…
Besides that huge step for us, you can count on yet more gigs, more events and possibly some surprises along the way. There will be brand new editions of our GRIMM Fests with every time an impressive bill for the lowest entrance fee possible! Come join us, talk to us, bang your head with us,… you’re more than welcome to our ever-growing community of like-minded people.
Related to our official GRIMM Gent site: first of all you can expect the same of course, just more… more reviews, more gig reports, more news, more interesting interviews and stories to share with all of you. We’ll be yet again represented at a big chunk of the European metal and rock festivals (Hellfest, Graspop Metal Meeting, Tuska Open Air, Summer Breeze, Fall of Summer, Wacken Open Air, Alcatraz Metal Festival,…) this summer and gathering the troops for a Belgian invasion on Winter Days of Metal and MetalDays 2017 this summer (for more info about both invasions go here or here), be sure to come look for us at, behind or under the bar or stage! But we can also announce a few brand new columns to be released on a regular basis for your pleasure:
- “Pick Your Poison”: we’ve noticed an almost daily growing amount of drinks being released by bands. Beers, wines, hard liquors,… who are we to deny support for this branch of the music business? So we’ve put our livers on the line to give them a taste and report back to you about them. Every 2 weeks we’ll put a drink (or poison, if you will) in the spotlight and tell you if we think it’s liquid gold or rather something to flush down the drain. Down the line we’ll also bring you interesting background stories and interviews with breweries and/or bands about how their booze came to be.
- “Videoland”: we’re also rebooting this little section of our site (since reboots are hip now anyway…). Every week you’ll get a new serving of whatever official music videos got released the week before, just in case you missed some. Or if you need some inspiration for a playlist or new purchases. One thing is advised for sure: crank your speaker up to 11 and blow the roof off wherever you are at the time.
Besides those two we’ll try to bring you releases to look forward to and put in your agenda, music-related books and games you have to check out and a piece of our collected (somewhat devious) minds. We’re gearing up for one hell of a year, we hope you are as much ready for what is to come as we are!
Horns up from the GRIMM Gent crew and editorial team and see you soon!
