Gig Reports
Electric Callboy has been experiencing a really explosive growth over the past couple of years, which is very noticeable if you look at how the venues on every new tour are getting bigger and bigger. For their visit to Finland on the “Tekkno Tour ’23”, the tickets were in such a high demand that they were quickly sold out and decided to add a second date, which in turn got sold out pretty fast as well. We knew that we were going to be in for quite the party, and honestly, I wanted to see how the Finnish crowd responds to a party band like Electric Callboy. On their Helsinki shows, we had to do without the support of Holding Absence, but at least we got a nice warming up by the lovely people of Future Palace.

On the back of their brand-new album ‘The Awakening’, US symphonic metal giants Kamelot are traveling through most of the world with a massive tour of the same name. On the European chapter, they’re bringing Myrath, Eleine and League of Distortion, making it a true celebration of symphonic metal. So there really was no choice but to catch this incredible bill at their stop in Helsinki.

Leprous is a kind of band that has managed to keep growing in popularity, even though the music they release now is quite a bit away from the sound they started off with. And that was clearly noticeable on their “Aphelion European Tour”, where a lot of the dates were sold out, including the stop in Helsinki. With them, they brought the UK djent outfit Monuments and Norwegian Nordic folk inspired alt-rock band Kalandra. A quite diverse line-up that still has elements in common with each other, and promising us a splendid night of incredible music.

Two sold-out performances in the Trix launching their Hypa Hypa Tour and afterwards outplaying everyone at Alcatraz 2022 creating a massive dust cloud in the process. That was the parcours Electric Callboy (formerly known as Eskimo Callboy) ran in Belgium during the last year. Were they able to match or even exceed that level this year again or was it simply a hype that now starts to lose its edge? Well ….. this most definitely is not just a hype and this band put the entire Lotto Arena in flames on their Tekkno Tour. The general consensus amongst all fans was univocal: next year Sportpaleis!

The unknown Cryptodira was also added to this pair. This evening has all the recipes to make it a fun but not so everyday musical evening.

It’s been a night in the making for quite a while, and now it was finally happening: Tuskalive brought German pagan folk stars Faun to the Finnish soil for what was promising to be a magical evening! As we’ve discussed before, these kind of folk acts are a rather rare sight in Finland, so whenever one comes by to take us to a dream soundscape that has the potential to connect us with our forefathers, we never hesitate to jump at the opportunity.

Last summer, Finland’s up and comers Lost Society unleashed a very nu metal tinged album with ‘If The Sky Came Down’, and they’ve been touring Finland these past couple of weeks to promote that album in front of many sold out venues. Finally, it was time for Helsinki to rave to their music, and with them, they brought the metalcore youngsters of Balance Breach and alt-rockers Luna Kills for what turned into a showcase of what the future for Finland’s music scene looks like.
