Hip hop is a music genre that I’ve always loved and when an absolute legend of the culture comes over for a show at a venue nearby, how could I say no to that? Jeru The Damaja, known from classic tracks like ‘Come Clean’, and his work with Gang Starr, is someone you simply don’t want to miss out on. Helsinki based hip hop artist Loasteeze managed to lure him to Finland and completed the night with some stellar Finnish acts like Jodarock and Bentality for what ended up being a hot and steamy night of beats and killer bars.

Before the brand-new Hellsinki Metal Horizons festival got its first proper day, they held a kickoff at On The Rocks in Helsinki that would become one of the most memorable nights of the year! With the legendary Canadian thrash metal band Exciter, an explosive show was to be expected, but added to that local thrash heroes The Hirvi, grindcore wackjobs Cannibal Accident and the future of heavy metal Satan’s Fall, to basically have something for everyone! And a banger of a concert it most definitely was…

When a band as out there as Imperial Triumphant comes in your neighborhood, you don’t hesitate and make sure you get to that show. So when these US avant-garde black/death metal mysteries had a stop in Helsinki on their ‘Mother of Greed’ Europe tour, that’s exactly what I did. And with just recently announced a new album coming, maybe there would be some new masterpieces getting thrown at us for the very first time live. Reason enough to exchange a sunny Monday evening for a couple of hours of pure and utter darkness and music madness.

With their new album ‘Immutable’ in their pocket, the Swedish godfathers of the djent genre are crossing through Europe to show us that Sweden is not only known of hard to assemble furniture but also delivers tight as a duck’s ass musicians. This time they took a halt in one of the best acoustic venues in Europe, the Ancienne Belgique. That this music hasn’t lost a dime of popularity was very noticeable, it was sold out. As a special guest the up and coming Zeal and Ardor had the honour to open up for Meshuggah.

May 4th, 2022 at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, IN was about the halfway point of Breaking Benjamin‘s month-long spring tour with Seether, Starset and Lacey Sturm. With a lineup of seasoned musicians, it was a night of strong talent. From Lacey‘s intimate acoustic set, to Starset‘s dynamic lights and production, Seether‘s 2 decades of experience and Breaking Benjamin‘s melodic sounds, it was an evening not soon to be forgotten.

Ever since I discovered the magical world that Kælan Mikla brings with them whenever they take over a stage, I try to catch these mesmerizing nymphs whenever they’re in the neighborhood. It had been since they came to Helsinki as support for Alcest before the pandemic hit that I last saw them, so I knew I couldn’t miss out on them showing up at On The Rocks in the beginning of May. With the in 2020 released album ‘Undir Köldum Norðurljósum’ in their pockets, they came to take us on a magical trip, with support from the equally intriguing US artist Kanga, also presenting her latest album ‘You and I Will Never Die’.

Ever since I moved to the lovely country of Finland, I somehow missed out on seeing Danko Jones every single time he was here. And that while I swore over a decade ago to catch a show of his anytime he came in my neighborhood… Time to finally rectify that somewhat! His first proper tour after the pandemic and back at the legendary Tavastia rock club in Helsinki for the first time in 5 years and I was there!

Finally! Igorrr made it to Finland for a show! Clearly I wasn’t the only one awaiting their arrival eagerly with a completely sold out Tavastia. Sadly, Drumcorps couldn’t make it all the way here as one of the support acts, but at least we still had the wackadoodle that is Otto Von Schirach to warm us up for the musical orgasm that would be Igorrr

As many other bands and live events, Nightwish has had to postpone the start of their world tour in support of their latest album ‘Human. :||: Nature.’ time after time again the past couple of years. Now finally came the time that they could move forward with their show. After an epic start at the Nokia Arena in Tampere with well over 10 000 people (see the photo report here), a couple of days later they came down to Helsinki to hit up Jäähalli for another over 5000 excited music fans! And we were there for it as well!
