Always an absolute pleasure to catch Go_A on a stage. Ever since their stint at Eurovision, the world has been turned onto their highly engaging mix of traditional folk and electronic music and it seems that this Ukranian outfit has conquered a special place in the hearts of many Finnish people. So here they are yet again, ready to play a show at Coolhead brewery for one of the Coolhead Live concert series…
Even though the weather was kind of lacking for the time of year, there were plenty of people that showed up for Go_A. As mentioned before, they seem to hold a special place in the hearts of many people in Finland and you could see that reflected in not only the frontrows, but all throughout the crowd, many brandishing the colors of the Ukranian flag and holding homemade signs. When the band took over the stage, they were greeted with a heartfelt welcome and loud cheers. They immediately did some proper fan service, hitting us with the Eurovision version of their most famous track ‘Shum‘. Sadly, due to a medical emergency happening in the audience, the show was halted for a moment early on. Vocalist Kateryna was clearly taken aback by the situation and made sure to ask the audience if everyone else was feeling ok. Someone raised their voice from the crowd to ask if she was ok – to which she replied yes and seemed to be very appreciative of this.
The best remedy for any negative feelings is music, I’d say. So after that short intermezzo, the music went on and everyone soon was moving along to the beats and folk tunes again. There is something mesmerizing about their blend of traditional folk and modern electronic music with here and there even a hint of metal and rock music. So before we realized it, we got already to the end of the show where they were about to play ‘Shum‘ again. But before starting that song, Kateryna asked if the crowd wanted to do some magic. She assured the audience that it was not any black magic, but of white magic, Ukrainian white magic. She continued by encouraging the crowd to join hands and form circles in the audience to join in some Ukrianian white magic. She encouraged the audience to form as many as they can, she even teased the Finnish audience by saying that at their previous gig in Belgium they formed 28 circles making a record amount of circles and questioning if this audience could beat that amount. “1 circle, 2, 3, …circles” Kateryna and the band were peering over the crowd to count, and the audience excitedly raised joined hands of circles and yelled the next numbers of more circles being formed throughout the crowd. The audience got so excited and soon there were well over 30 circles beating their previous record. The audience welcomed the familiar tunes of ‘Shum‘ and circle dances took over the yard, raising the atmosphere to something very magical. People were just laughing, dancing, laughing, holding hands and having fun in the moment – the vibe truly was something cool to experience. The song calms down for a bit with Kateryna telling everyone to sit down and close your eyes to feel the moment, building anticipation of what’s to come. Then suddenly the song explodes back to full swing and so did the dance circles throughout the audience.
After that, they still ended their set with ‘Veselo‘ as an encore track, wrapping up the set with some great electro beats and dancing.
