In November, Benighted and Baest stopped in Ghent with their “Beast against Beast” European co-headline tour. During the tour Coffin Feeder was the special guest, and tonight Carrion was the local support. Unfortunately I had to miss out on the always great Carrion due to circumstances, but overall this was an absolute killer of an extreme metal night!
Coffin Feeder
Coffin Feeder was the special guest during the “Beast against Beast Tour”. This Belgian “supergroup” consists of members of Fleddy Melculy, Leng Tch’e, Aborted en When Plagues Collide and brings a mix of deathcore and grindcore with a comical twist. The lyrics are about action movies from the 80s and 90s. From the first crushing riff of their set, the crowd was thrown into chaos, with mosh pits erupting almost instantly. Coffin Feeder’s sound was a perfect balance of precision and savagery, with blistering guitars slicing through the venue like a buzzsaw. The band’s frontman commanded the stage with a mix of primal screams and guttural growls, effortlessly controlling the crowd’s energy. Coffin Feeder’s set was a masterclass in modern extreme music, and it’s clear they’re carving out their space in the scene. If you’re a fan of crushing riffs, relentless energy, and unfiltered brutality, Coffin Feeder is a must-see.

Baest
After Coffin Feeder it was Baest‘s turn, the first headliner of the evening. Active since 2015, Baest are a death metal band from Aarhus, Denmark. And they delivered a punishing display of old-school-inspired death metal with a modern edge. From the very first note, it was clear that the Danish titans weren’t here to take prisoners—this was a full-on sonic assault, executed with precision, power, and undeniable charisma. The band’s ability to blend old-school death metal influences with a modern, polished sound made for an electrifying performance. Frontman Simon Olsen commanded the stage with his deep, guttural vocals and intense stage presence, engaging the crowd with devilish grins and roars that seemed to shake the foundations of the venue. The twin guitar attack of Lasse Revsbech and Svend Karlsson delivered razor-sharp riffs and melodic solos that balanced brutality with technical finesse. The rhythm section, anchored by Sebastian Abildsten’s thunderous drumming and Mattias Melchiorsen’s rumbling bass, kept everything tight and unrelenting. If you have the chance to see Baest live, don’t hesitate. They’re a force of nature, delivering a masterclass in death metal that leaves you battered, bruised, and begging for more.
Benighted
Up next: French extreme metal titans Benighted. Benighted‘s live performances are renowned for their intensity and technical precision. With their signature blend of death metal, grindcore, and relentless energy, the band proved once again why they are one of the most formidable live acts in the genre. From the moment frontman Julien Truchan took the stage, it was clear the crowd was in for an onslaught. His guttural growls and piercing shrieks ripped through the venue, commanding a sea of bodies to erupt into chaos. Drummer Kevin Paradis was an absolute machine behind the kit, delivering lightning-fast blast beats and pummeling grooves with pinpoint accuracy. By the time the final notes rang out, the audience was drenched in sweat, grinning from ear to ear. Benighted had once again proven their dominance, leaving no doubt as to why they are considered one of extreme metal’s most electrifying live acts.
It was a brutal, but fantastic night! Fans of Coffin Feeder and Baest will be delighted to hear that both bands will perform at Alcatraz next summer. Don’t miss it!
