Finnish rock institution Suburban Tribe will make a return to the festival stages next summer!
Suburban Tribe, one of Finland’s most significant rock bands of the turn of the millennium, makes a long-awaited comeback to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, “Primitive”.
The band will perform at five festivals during the summer of 2024, the first of which will be the John Smith Rock Festival. The other gigs will be published later, according to the festivals’ own publication schedules.
The band continues with the same line-up it left when it ended: Ville Tuomi (vocals), Janne Joutsenniemi (bass), Roope Sirén (guitar), Euge Valovirta (guitar) and Alec Hirst-Gee (drums). The band’s original singer Jouni Markkanen will also take the stage as a special guest. Janne says:
Last summer I watched with Jouni when Ville sang at Kyyria’s concert… There was something indescribable magic in that moment. That immense feeling of togetherness and long friendship created the spark from which this whole thing burst into flames again.
Known for their energetic stage presence, Suburban Tribe played two sold-out farewell gigs in Tavastia in 2011. During their 20-year career, the band released eight studio albums. Among the single releases, the hits Frozen Ashes, Oil And Water, Silent Rain, While The World Awaits and Now And Ever After are best remembered.
Clichéd but honestly speaking, it feels like the time for a comeback is right now. Everything seemed to fall into place as if by itself, and when that debut album also happens to be around 30 years next summer, what could be better than that. Next summer’s concerts are going to be crazy, I already feel it in my bones and core, Ville smiles.
During the intervening years of Suburban Tribe, Ville Tuomi has sung in the bands Leningrad Cowboys, Raskasta Joulua and Kyyria. Janne Joutsennniemi has played bass in the bands Stone and Herra Ylppö, Alec Hirst-Gee has played drums in the band Francine, and Euge Valovirta plays guitar in the bands Shining and Cyhra. During the intervening years, Roope Sirén has blown up 1,000,000 m³ of Finnish bedrock.
