Belgian post-hardcore unit Valley launch Kickstarter for upcoming record; share new single ‘The Defeatist’

The year 2020 has been so strange for everyone. People lost their job, the world became isolated and most of us weren’t allowed to have a creative outlet. For Belgian emotive hardcore five-piece Valley this resulted in canceling a European tour, playing no gigs and having zero income. Tough break for a band who’s just done recording their upcoming record ‘Delusion of the Defeatist‘, due April 2021, at a still to be determined label.

Valley comment:

Nevertheless, even in these darker times, we kept on doing what we love: writing and playing music. We recorded our very first full album ‘Delusion Of The Defeatist‘ in August 2020. Of course this comes with some cost, and therefore we launch this Kickstarter project to fund a part of the costs of recording this album. In exchange we offer merchandise, pre-order bundles and the possibility to book us for an exclusive show.

In celebration of their crowdfunding campaign, Valley have just recently released the album’s second single ‘The Defeatist’ in the form of a brand new music video. The footage was shot during their last tour across Europe. Check it out:

Their previous single ‘Abstinence From You‘ was released via Dreambound. Both videoclips were shot by Stef De Bonne and Pieterjan Haemers from Krew Collective.

Valley on the writing process:

Writing this album has been the best way to express what we have learned and discovered while being in a band together. The music itself is loyal to our sound, yet more experimental and inspired by a wide range of artists and genres. The Covid pandemic forced us to approach the writing process in a completely different way compared to what we are used to. Writing from home instead of being together in the rehearsal room was a challenge. Nonetheless, we are more than happy with how this album turned out.

The band elaborate on the album concept:

‘Delusion Of The Defeatist’ explains the story of a person handling different struggles in life. Feeling isolated and defeated, lacking self-love, dealing with heartbreak, showing mercy, having sorrow and how to cope with this. The unreal and hazy aspect of delusion which can occur through strong emotions is integrated in most of these tracks, as it flows in line with the dreamy post rock parts in our music. And if these things are accepted and placed correctly, it will give strength eventually.

Moreover, Valley stuck close to home when searching for the perfect artwork:

This artwork was created by our good friend and ex-drummer Olivier Crudo. He managed to visualize the different musical aspects of the album. Listening to our tracks, you will find experimental sound structures, texures, drones… Olivier integrated all of this in our album cover.
