Belgian metal band Thorium released official music video for ‘Nightfall’
This is the THIRD promotional video single for the new album EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEYS PART I. The album was released last week, on NOVEMBER 16th 2023!
“Venturing into classic Science Fiction territory, ‘Nightfall’ is based on the 1941 short story of the same name by one of the genre’s all-time greats, Isaac Asimov. It tells the tale of a doomed world that revolves around six suns – a so-called Multiple Star System. Because of this cosmic arrangement, the planet knows no night…or does it? We follow the exploits of one of the world’s inhabitants – a scientist who uncovers hints of society’s highly cyclical nature, due to some sort of mysterious calamity that appears to befall the planet and make civilization collapse every several thousand years, and which causes the mythical “Stars” to appear and drive everyone insane. When he not only discovers what this global cataclysm would entail, but also that it is right around the corner, his frantic attempts to warn his people are met only with disbelief and ridicule. That is, until the once-in-multiple-millennia solar eclipse starts to fill up and darken the sky, and blind, feral panic once again resets society, as it has done countless times through the aeons…”
The brand new album ‘EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEYS PART I’ is released on CD and on coloured vinyl, with inlays featuring full artwork, lyrics and photos. The vinyl edition is limited to 300 copies.
Hailing from Belgium, Thorium saw its inception in 2018; the same year that saw the release of their self-titled debut album, which was released on October 5th 2018. Touring and gigging in promotion for the record commenced immediately, and saw the band playing dozens of dates across Germany, Spain, Great Britain, Holland and Belgium, where they shared the stage with acts such as Geoff Tate’s Operation Mindcrime, Ross The Boss, Toxik, The Three Tremors, Heir Apparent, Q5, and many more.
Not content to rest on their laurels, and eager to prove themselves a band that could keep on producing quality material quickly and efficiently, Thorium completed work on their sophomore album Empires In The Sun in the following year. Working together once again with seasoned mixer Simone Mularoni (DGM, Michael Romeo, Geoff Tate, Ray Alder,…), the band delivered some of their most ambitious material yet, employing guest vocals by acclaimed artists such as Arjen A. Lucassen (Ayreon) and Joe Van Audenhove (Evil Invaders), as well as British actor and narrator Norman Eshley (Blind Guardian) to further broaden their sound. ‘Empires In The Sun’ was released on March 5th 2021.
Now, closing off 2023 and heading into 2024, THORIUM are BACK with their third full-length release EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEYS PART I – the first chapter of a two-part album that sees the group tackling classic adventure stories, and delves into the notions of exploration, discovery, and extraordinary journeys in general
Influenced by and incorporating elements of all the classic styles of Metal from the past four decades, such as NWOBHM, Power Metal, Progressive Metal, Speed Metal, Bay Area Thrash and of course classic Heavy Metal, Thorium’s members set themselves no boundaries and seek to deliver music that is heavy, melodic, virtuosic, catchy and conceptual.
