Alienist signs to UNFD and release new single ‘Prisoner Of You’
Wollongong five-piece Alienist unleash towering metalcore mayhem with their brand new single Prisoner Of You out now. The new track also accompanies the group today announcing their worldwide signing to UNFD.
“We are beyond excited to start this journey with UNFD,” Alienist share of their new label home. “We have all grown up idolising bands from this label and to now be a part of it is absolutely surreal!”
Weaving a biting commentary on a toxic relationship alongside catharsis, “Prisoner Of You” dazzles with its angular riffs, caustic verses and swelling, melodic choruses, pushing Alienist‘s hulking prowess into a brand new stratosphere alongside powerful ruminations at its core. The track’s accompanying music video, directed by Ten of Swords Media, captures and amplifies the track’s urgency and energy, with Alienist also showcasing their magnetic live prowess in the process.
“‘Prisoner Of You’ is an analysis of a toxic and abusive relationship and how it can feel to be in that situation with no escape in sight, to be a prisoner,” Alienist share of their brand new track. “It comes from an angry perspective towards the abusive person that has attempted to destroy us emotionally or physically and the realisation of how terrible an individual that commits those acts towards someone is. It hopefully serves as a reminder to people that these situations are not okay and to seek help and support if they feel like they’re in a toxic or abusive relationship.”
Named for an anachronistic term for psychiatry, Alienist forged from the remnants of a former covers band, with the current lineup, consisting of Lachlan Forsberg (Vocals), Damon Renes (Vocals + Guitar), Anthony Vella (Guitar), Chris Olliffe (Bass) and Jake Ceely (Drums), convening over a shared passion for crafting meaningful and memorable music alongside influences ranging from I Prevail and Wage War, to Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Polaris and Northlane.
From their debut single, 2019’s Social Faker, through to their most recent track prior to today, 2022’s Exile, Alienist relentlessly enamour with their modern flair and infectious design. And it’s this heavy yet nuanced nature of glistening light and menacing shade that has seen the Wollongong five-piece previously secure airplay on triple j, perform alongside the likes of Thy Art Is Murder, Make Them Suffer, Ocean Grove, Yours Truly and Fit For An Autopsy at UNIFY Off The Record in 2023, open for juggernauts Northlane and Gravemind and tick off an almost sold out national headline tour – and all without breaking a sweat in an exceedingly short space of time.
Now with their gazes firmly fixed on 2024, prepare to witness Alienist in a whole new light. Wollongong’s best kept secret is out and ready to take on the world.
