After several releases, they finally revealed themselves with a vast range of gimmicks, and there is no doubt that the self-titled debut album out now via Nuclear Blast on September 13, 2024, enhanced their reputation on the international level. Zetra shrewdly combines hypnotic vocals, electronic percussion, and pounding synth vibes; drawing on the eighties gothic elements that are beautifully fused into the ten songs.
The poppy synth and the heavy reverb guitar can be described as cold and ambient where the duo brings in some eerie dark beats, and the rich assortment of Type O Negative, The Cure, and Pet Shop Boys‘ eighties synth wave style creates a sensational and emotional resonance. The shimmering synth and the drum machine in the album’s opener “Suffer Eternally” offer breathtaking gothic hooks, soaring vocals, and galactic synth dancing with lush guitar in the background.
The innovative touch of instruments such as the rich guitar texture will make your heart freeze as they intertwine with the spellbinding ghostly vocals in the following song “Sacrifice” which plunges between the pounding electronic percussion to fit into the machination perfectly.
There are moments of beauty that possess you with the electrifying and cosmic visual galaxy full of chills, but before the lush musical settings prepare you for a hypnotic mood, the dark sci-fi synth morphing from one ethereal moment to another in “Starfall”. The catchy guitar lines are reminiscent of Paradise Lost’s gothic era albums and luminous melodies evoke a lusty sensation conveying some effective passages, you can’t help but let the dancing rhythm guide you to the starry spheres in “Mirror”.
The music taps you gently in a spacey atmosphere and for all its shoegaze and gothic synth-pop arrangements the duo in Zetra offer profuse catchy hooks, and they are carefully strewn across the length of the album. For instance “Shatter The Mountains” contains plenty of beautiful melodies. There is a talent in these soft falsetto above the hooky choruses resulting in a hypnotic and trance-like atmosphere.
The almost four-minute track “Holy Malice” waves compelling synth wave melodies capturing the spacey experience, the drum machine, the sweeping lush guitar riffs, and the sweet emotive vocals adding layers of depth to the profound textures.
Zetra doesn’t shy away from creating emotive climaxes through the brooding electronics, and “Inseparable” shows how uniquely the duo can inspire the listener through the spacey synthesizer themes with their heavier riffs pounding the swelling rhythms ebb and flow of its dark synth that’s utterly charming.
“Gaia” then serves as a soundtrack to escapism; the synth and the guitars exude catchy futuristic passages most of the songs are electronically driven as if the duo dares you to find your sonic fix, while “Moonfall” injects heavy industrial sounds into the mix. You will find yourself floating across radiant and ethereal synth riffs and emotional soulful vocals, every piece on this self-titled album is capable of getting stuck in your head and probably haunting you in your sleepless nights.
This is the otherworldly fashion of Zetra crafted exquisitely to bring something quite magical to its fans, the music explores multi-faceted styles of gothic metal electronic patterns from the bygone eighties era in the closing four-minute cut “Miracle”. It integrates into a swirling synth built into electronic throbbing beats and drenched guitar riffs interplay with the gloomy vocals.
