WARFIELD’s ‘With The Old Breed’ delivers a powerful and agressive experience that will give any true thrash metal fan a massive adrenaline push. Clean, cutting speed riffs are combined with dissonant melodies and high speed drumming. Musically, there is only one direction: fast-forward. Sometimes even faster forward. There are no slower passages within, a real dream come true for speed freaks. If you are not, the pace of the songs may be a little too much for you because it is stringent through the whole album from start to end. The opening track ‘Melting Mass’ sets the high level and the rest of tracks keeps the promise. Mathias Clemens (Guitars), Johannes Clemens (Bass & Vocals) and Dominik Marx (Drums) do show that they know their business and are capable musicians. It is impossible to pick a track that would stand out.
Johannes Clemens‘ vocals are pure thrash at its best. His lyrics cover a broad spectrum of war, violence, psychological and as well societal topics. Adding the clear and very well done production, this album is a real gem. Classic sound that has not to be shy of a comparison with any other album of any other genre giants. The track list is finally closed up by a NAPALM DEATH cover of ‘F# (Wake Up)’: a great song that got the WARFIELD blend all over it, making it a cover song of the good kind with its own personality.
This album is a clear commitment to thrash metal. Actually it is a perfect example and if you look up the term thrash metal in an encyclopedia, you could easily name this album as a definition of the term, making this both its strength and weakness at the same time. People that are no strict thrash purist might miss a little variety in the album and may find the style too monotonous.

REVIEW SCORE
9 | ‘With The Old Breed’ is a fantastic thrash album by WARFIELD. There is no other way to say it. Its strength of shredding riffs, cutting and aggressive vocals, and simple unstoppable spreed is just great. A stunning production taking account of the well-balanced and always clear, straight sound adds to that. There are a some minor tweaks that leave room for the future: a little more variety in the vocal styles, incorporating mid-tempo interludes and a tad more confidence to experiment. |
