‘The Wretched; The Ruinous’ starts excellent with a more refreshing sound with a very melodic touch. A song that has a lot of surprises for us. We go on with ‘Cremation Of The Living’, going back to the older days when the single named ‘Giles’ (2006) came out. They show off both their new and old sound.
‘Eradicator’ has the Unearth stamp where the old sound gets a facelift with some melodic elements that gives it an extra push. ‘Mother Betrayal’ keeps up the good work with some brutal tunes and an acceleration in speed. You can’t record a metalcore album without a heavy breakdown song on it. Well, with ‘Invictus’ we found it, and it is such a beauty when the melodic elements kick in and that massive breakdown at the end.
‘Call Of Existence’ takes it back to the more melodic side of this album. That’s what I like about this album. Using different styles to give us something refreshing and not always the same thing. Back on track with ‘Dawn Of The Militant’ that gives us a taste of the good old Unearth where riffs and drums create the perfect Unearth song. ‘Aniara’ an acoustic intermezzo that is way too short, what a beautiful sound is this. In perfect harmony with the next in line ‘Into The Abyss’ for me personal it’s the best song on this album. No words, just listen. Just 2 left, ‘Broken Arrow’ no slowing down by seeing the end full speed ahead. We end in style with ‘Theaters Of War’. We end it like we started, brutal and melodic, but above all this is the new and improved Unearth.
Album number 8 and the metalcore giants are back. They worked on their sound and came back with a new and popular sound. It’s different and refreshing and sounds damn good. Looking forward to the future of these guys.
REVIEW SCORE
8 | Unearth worked hard on the road to success. It came with ups and downs, but now these guys are back with an astonishing new album full of melodic brutal metalcore tunes. |
