‘Overdriver’ is perfect proof of the band’s ability to blend classic rock influences with their own unique sound. The album features elements of ’70s rock legends like Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones, combined with the raw energy of punk and garage rock. A little piano here, some keyboards over there. Partially it gets really back in time, but still fitting for today. Tracks like ‘Token Apologies’ and ‘Don’t Let Me Bring You Down’ showcase the band’s capability to create catchy and groovy hooks and riffs that stick.
Standout tracks on the album are for sure ‘(I Don’t Wanna Be) Just A Memory’, which channels the best of pop plus outstanding rock characteristics and combining both with an infectious earworm chorus. ‘Doomsday Daydreams’ offers a slower, bluesy and less driving tuning. Whereas ‘Coming Down’ brings a some real garage rock sound feeling.
This time NICKE ANDERRSON is not only the frontman of the band but producer of the album. He has succeeded to add some new flavours without losing the signature sound that is trademark for the current THE HELLAPCOPTERS. The vocals are intriguingly charismatic and together with the raw, special sound makes it easy to recognize the band in the first notes of each song.
Unfortunately, DREGEN hasn’t been able to take part in the recording of the album due to his still ongoing prolonged hand injury. Hopefully he will be back when the band will play ‘Overdriver’ material live. Even though, the result is a highly energized pure rock’n’roll album reflecting the essence of THE HELLACOPTERS. NICKE has kept accountability for the solos and ANDERS ‘BOBA’ LINDSTRÖM took over the part of second guitar, to complete the classic rock band line-up.
