Thaurorod – Coast Of Gold

/ / By :

4 years after their last album ‘Anteinferno’, the Finnish symphonic power metal band Thaurorod comes with their third full album called ‘Coast Of Gold’ to celebrate that the band has been around for 15 years. This album will be available as a CD and as a digital download. The album cover speaks for itself, I’m already excited to set the sails with Thaurorod, consisting of Andi Kravljaca (vocals), Emil Pohjalainen (guitar), Lasse Neyman (guitar), Harri Koskela (keyboards), Pasi Tanskanen (bass) and Joonas Pykälä-aho (drums),  to find the ‘Coast Of Gold’.

‘Coast Of Gold’ can’t start but powerful with the song ‘Power’This number immediately gives you a feeling of solidarity at sea. Kravljaca‘s vocals are a little raw, he even grunts a little on this album. This gives me the feeling that Thaurorod became a more power(ful) metal band than before. The keyboard reinforces this feeling, while in the second song ‘The Commonwealth LivesKoskela creates the symphonic metal influence in the power metal that defines this album.

The title track invites us to sail with Thaurorod to the ‘Coast Of Gold’. With this song, among other things, they show us that they can put variation in the rhythms. They created some drama musically in this song, because of course storms can be expected at sea during the trip.

Screaming guitar solos and dexterous, powerful rhythm created by the guitars and the keyboard defines this album. Yet the band created the right atmosphere in the songs, which brings musical variation in this album. ‘24601’ begins mysteriously with only the keyboard and the guitar and generally this song gives an ominous feeling. The last song ‘Halla’, which is an ode to winter, fragile and majestic as life itself, is a calmer song. It’s a nice ending, nevertheless I wouldn’t mind if there would be a song like that somewhere in between because it would have been a nice change between all the fast and powerful songs.

Despite the fact that the keyboard creates the combination of symphonic and power metal in this album, with ‘Coast Of Gold’ Thaurorod gives me the feeling that the power metal is even more prevalent than before. This album proves that the band members are well attuned to each other and that they have grown musically in 15 years without losing their style.
