Tengil is a young post metal band from Sweden who have just made their debut for Prophecy after a first full length and a sizeable score of EPs.

Contrary to what you might expect from these younglings, they don’t really take that much influence from the likes of Cult of Luna. In fact, they have a lot more in common with the frenetic mathcore of The Dillinger Escape Plan.

For sure, they don’t make for an easy listen. Their angular compositions are often deliberately internally conflicted, to the point where you think the individual members are all playing their own song. This specifically applies to the first half of the record. After a noisy instrumental interlude the music shifts towards a more shoegazy style that is not a million miles away from My Bloody Valentine or closer to home, Alcest, if you’d like. Personally, I’m rather inclined to skip those first tracks and would really like to see the band evolve this dreamier side of them.
