The fifth album offers the signature anthemic vocals of Nate Garrett, and the opening track “Give her to the River” sets up melodic twists and memorable moments and weaves catchy lead guitars, harmonies, explosive solos, and some rocking and mesmeric vibes from Iron Maiden. It won’t take you too long to enjoy the sonic experience because the band showcases plenty of powerful riffs and old old-school feel. Traditional hard rock riffs are filled to the brim with moments of the musical genius that steals the show throughout the eight new tracks.
“Barn Burner” shows how Spirit Adrift possesses technical skills from the heavy percussion and the vibrant guitar work filled with powerful riffs, Nate Garrett opted for something truly classic and old school on the new album. “Hanged Man’s Revenge” offers a heavy slab of heavy metal and the full throttle of 80s metal, like a blaze of fire set in a stage and pyrotechnics that showers sparks. Spirit Adrift brings a rampant kind of magic to its newest album, and perpetually reinventing the wheel.
On one level “Ghost at the Gallows” is riddled with numerous elements of classic heavy metal and 70s rock, for example, a track such as “These Two Hands” shows the diversity of the songs. The soothing instrumental ballad may sound less ambitious, but the guitars midway through the song are let to shine as soon as the riffs come rumbling down. Blessed by the musical charm and the thrill of bringing something that would appeal to fans of heavy metal, “Ghost at the Gallows” delivers effort into bringing a soulful performance, and presents an astonishing diversity.
With tracks like “Death Won’t Stop Me” forcibly improvising infectious vocals, the riffs flow in abundance through a range of different styles. Grasping the flair of the classic mastery and the rhythm guitars laden with rapturous zeal and memorable melodies in the track “I Shall Return”. The classic influences of Angel Witch, Pallbearer, and the 80s era of Black Sabbath give a solid presence in the songwriting prowess. Even though I wouldn’t define the newest album as an epic heavy metal album, the fact is that Spirit Adrift demonstrates creativity and originality in its different style can be looked at as an achievement for the band.
Along the forty-five-minute ride, the guitars and the melodic vocals are the driving force that pushes boundaries to convey plenty of influences. And a subtle doom metal vibe that keeps you hooked to the sudden transitions from traditional heavy metal to classic rock. The soaring vocals of Garrett in “Siren of the South” validate the spacious scope of the sheer chunky riffs and the clean acoustic guitars which shows the definite quality, where the elegant guitars deliver a sense of freshness and wit.
Despite the modern sound production, the lead guitars are laced with a touch of aptitude. You may as well be carried by the restless energy and a variety of different moods that sometimes sounds dramatic and often amplified by the powerful chugging. The faint trace of aggression in the riffing is one of the many aspects that distinguish the talent of Natt Garrett. The final track “Ghost at the Gallows” offers a surge of passion and creativity, and begins with a heavy riff deluge and irresistibly anthemic vocals. Upbeat tempo changes result in a heavy mixture of head-banging riffs and inspiring vocals create a dark backdrop for some epic clean guitar section. The vocals in this track are instantly haunting, and they sound dark and epic there is also an immense influence from doom metal bands. The dark effect of the vocals strikes a chord with the vigorous guitar riffs, this is in my opinion one of the best songs of the album that shows diversity in styles.
