Seether – The Surface Seems So Far

Seether is a band that goes back a long time. So I was surprised when out of nowhere, Spotify released a new album. I didn't know there was coming a new album soon, so I was not prepared. They released it on September 20 back in 2024, and I couldn't let this go unnoticed, so here is the latest album of Seether.

The last time Seether was on my radar was 4 years ago with the release of ‘Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum.’ A dark and emotional and even depressive album. But that is what I want from Seether. That’s the old Seether that has reached the surface again. And speaking of surface: ‘The Surface Seems So Far’ has again that depressive, dark and emotional feeling.

‘Judas Mind’ goes way back to the much older sound of Seether but of course with a modern touch. The lyrics of Seether always contain a certain message and helps others with whatever hell they are going through. And they read the lyrics and implement them with their own problems and helps them deal with it. That’s what Seether does. And that’s what ‘Illusion’ does, creating a certain feeling and together with the lyrics deal with our problems.

‘Beneath The Veil’ is also a song that could easily been released 20 years ago. ‘Semblance Of Me’ has a more modern sound and twist. The old school Seether fans will notice this twist. But then there is ‘Walls Come Down’ and is for me my absolute favorite of this album. It sounds old school and like I mentioned in the beginning it’s dark, emotional and depressive.

‘Try To Heal’ is a faster and harder track and goes back to ‘Isolate And Medicate’ from 2014. And we entered a new chapter on this album. The songs go darker and harder, just like this ‘Paint The World’ that has a harder approach. ‘Same Mistakes’ is such a song when you can let go all your problems and let it rest for a second. ‘Lost All Control’ is a part of the harder songs that are a great mix with the more emotional loaded songs. ‘Dead On The Vine’ is also a part of the darker path they are walking and then put to rest with the last song of this album called ‘Regret.’ It’s a great ending to a marvellous album from the mighty Seether.

Seether yet again comes out with an album that reached mind and soul and hits you right where it hurts. Sometimes you have to destroy everything to build something new.
