Hailing from Lubbock, Texas, Fleshrot is a newly formed band that plays a mid-paced death metal style. 'Unburied Corpse' is their first studio album released via Me Saco un Ojo Records and Desert Wastelands Productions. The grisly album cover art might be the best way to describe the music here. There are two different covers for the album, with an alternative artwork designed by Chamber Realm. It features 7 tracks that mix grooves and old-school cavernous riffing which makes the songs quite enjoyable. The line-up is fronted by Phil (guitars, vocals), Casey Garcia (guitars), AB (bass guitar) and Tanner (drums). The band released its first demo in 2020, followed by a split album and a single.

Austrian blackened death metal titans Belphegor launched its 12th album “The Devils” on July 29th via Nuclear Blast Records. During a five years hiatus, mastermind Helmuth (guitars, and vocals) and Serpenth haven't forgotten their black metal roots :the overt sound of blackish growls and the machine gun blast beats have again gone the next level in hell. Belphegor invokes the evil forces of hell. Without showing any signs of weakness Belphegor has managed to deliver a dark and sinister album with an absolute emphasis on chugging guitars still remaining the brute force.

Brazilian death metal three-piece Krisiun returns for the follow-up to the 2018 album 'Scourge of the Enthroned'. 'Mortem Solis' is the band’s 12th album on which the trio Alex Camargo (bass, vocals), Max Kolesne (drums) and Moyses Kolesne (guitars) showcase precision and strong cohesion. Among other death metal bands in the scene, Krisiun has gone from strength to strength and continues to push the limits of its robust formula. Throughout their 30 years career Krisiun has evolved from its early sound to become one of the strongest and most consistent acts in the death metal scene in the modern era.

Québécois death metal formation Sedimentum has unleashed its first studio album 'Suppuration Morphogénésiaque' via Me Saco Un Ojo and Memento Mori. Putrefied in its own signature style of guttural growls the music is molded in the atmosphere of monstrousness and repulsion. Formed in 2018 by guitarist/vocalist Alexis Élément, U.N. (guitars), the lineup also includes M.L. (bass, vocals, and drums), and Alexandre Landry (bass). Sedimentum writes songs in the similar ilk of bands like Undergang, Disma, Funebrarum and Tomb Mold where the guitar work absolutely provides a cavernous depth.

The Copenhagen-based death metal trio Chaotian may be newcomers to some, but in fact the band has been among the rising acts in Europe for some time. 'Effigies of Obsolescence' is the first studio album released via Me Saco un Ojo Records and Dark Descent Records on June 24th, 2022. Following two demo releases, it seems these Danes are adept at the visceral level. Chaotian exudates filthy, rotten death metal, brutal and old school. The use of the down-tuned guitars reawakens that 90s quality to create a dense and murky sound. The production on this album has these cavernous-sounding riffs and the guttural growls provide something visceral to the songs.

While being at Metaldays in Slovenia, I got to know Slovenian metalcore band Inmate. After an energetic performance where lead singer Marko Duplišak jumped from the stage, over the steel fences and into the crowd, Then ran one lap in the circle pit, jumped back over the fence and jumped on stage and still had enough breath to sing, I was curious to find out more about this band. Drummer Jure Grudnik gave me their CD. Let’s check it out.
