Two of the best labels in the underground scene, Dark Descent Records and Extremely Rotten Productions, issued an exclusive split release of Denmark’s death metal band Undergang and U.S. death doom band Spectral Voice on June 9th, 2023. The unique aspect of this split release is presenting the latest material from these two bands. And while many groups within the genre have strived to achieve the putrid sound of Undergang as reaching their peak musically, the center of attention in this split is Spectral Voice’s fourteen-minute monolithic track.

Back in 1985 when Sepultura released its debut E.P. 'Bestial Devastation' the Brazilian juggernauts gave birth to a worldwide legacy that became one of the most original and influential acts in the genre. Sepultura simply grasped the Latin American extreme sound in the rawest and most primitive form of death thrash metal. Thirty-eight years later amid reminiscing the classic era of Sepultura the Cavalera brothers Max and Iggor exert their abilities to re-record the classic debut with the modern technology of today.

Back in the eighties and nineties, Sepultura was as significant and influential as Slayer, Death and Kreator in the underground metal scene. These Brazilian juggernauts rose to international popularity with classic albums like 'Morbid Visions', 'Beneath the Remains' and 'Arise', drawing millions of fans to their old school thrashing dynamics and aggression. Although Sepultura carried on with guitarist Andreas Kisser; who took the helm after the departure of the founding members, Max put together a new, popularized, unique and innovative groove style of metal under the name of Soulfly.

Curse Of Cain's debut album has been a long time in the making. The recording for the album started in 2017, but I've been waiting for this already since 2014, when the bass player of an old favourite band of mine told me about his new project. Therefore, of course, I just had to write a review about this album, even though it not quite my normal genre. So let's not wait any longer and dive right in.

After the somewhat offbeat EP ‘At Wit’s End’ and the surprising collaboration with Thou on ‘Myopia’, Mizmor has returned to more familiar terrain on his new full length ‘Prosaic’.
Compared to their third album ‘Cairn’, this new album is not so much a concept album, but more of a slice of life record, to use Liam Neigbors’ (also known as A.L.N.) own words, which tries to dial down the grandiose and be less self-indulging.

Pennsylvanian five-piece death metal/hardcore band Outer Heaven is finally back with their anticipated sophomore 'Infinite Psychic Depths' out on July 21st, 2023, via Relapse Records. The band presents its rawest and unbridled brutality, drawing your attention to the overwhelming rampage. Aside from expanding on the first full-length album 'Realms of Eternal Decay' which was one my favorite albums of 2018, the quality of the gut-wrenching riffs, jackhammer drums and dense guitars are more powerful here and laden with buzz-saw riffs.

Four years ago, the international death metal act KHNVM showed great potential for establishing an obscure and brutal style in the death metal genre. KHNVM was formed by Obliterator (guitars, bass and vocals) and released the debut album 'Foretold Monuments of Flesh' in 2019 via Testimony Records. Two years later KHNVM made a significant improvement in embodying the aesthetics of U.S. death metal on the sophomore release 'Portals to Oblivion' and now we actually have a new mini album 'Visions of A Plague-Ridden Sky' which was released on June 23rd, 2023, through Bitter Loss Records and Neck Breaker Records.

On their newest album Bloodbound dive a bit into folk music territory, but don't worry, they still sound like Bloodbound, just an evolved version. They did a great job merging their signature sound with new elements to create this new masterpiece about the Viking era.
