This release by Modern Terror has been around for a while and I have only just come across it. Sometimes it is nice to hear something that is just really good fun to listen to and I would definitely include this EP in that category.

Going Viral is the latest release from Canadian punksters Modern Terror.

The four track ep opens at breakneck speed with the 2 minute long and tremendously named,‘You Fell In Love With A Dick’. Pounding drumming and fast guitar and you’re thinking average punk track. That is until halfway through the song transforms into what sounds like a mid 70’s Mott The Hoople guitar solo before reverting to the former punk by numbers.

After the opening track, the rest of the EP takes off into the direction of a pop punk masterclass. ‘Quarantine Queen’ is a glorious track and almost inevitably concerns the trials of love during lock-down. ‘I’m The Only Cokehead At The Party’ is probably self explanatory. The best is well and truly saved to last with final track ‘Jihad Hottie’. A no holds barred romp through a Ramones-tinged tune concerning love between 2 people on opposing sides in Afghanistan. The lyrics are hilarious and there is a nice little guitar solo thrown in for good measure. Fantastic stuff!

Modern Terror‘s EP ‘Going Viral’ is the perfect little punk party that’ll make us forget about the past 2 years of pandemic misery. An absolute masterclass in uncompromisingly fun punk music!
