This is the first Ministry album since guitarist Mike Scaccia died from a heart attack in 2012. Al Jourgenson didn’t want to make a new album without his beloved one, it seems that the time has come to give it a shot without him after all…
AmeriKKKant is a short album with only 9 songs on it, although not in time, there are lengthy ones on it. As we know Jourgenson the album will be filled with a lot of political statements along his industrial typical sound. And you can hear that he is angry at what is happening nowadays, hence the KKK in the title of the album. But political statements is not what makes an album great, what about the music? Is he still capable of doing songs like ‘Jesus Built My Hotrod’ ? We’ll find it out in a second.
The album opens with I Know Words, this is more like an intro, although a long one, and not a real song. It’s full of samples, speeches from Donald Trump to express Al Jourgenson‘s anti-Trump attitude. This intro goes smoothly over in Twilight Zone, an eight minutes long but rather boring track that stays always on the same just below mid tempo groove. Victims Of A Clown, as you can guess is about … yes you’re right !!! This is one of the better songs on the album, more explosive and groovier than the other ones and something we are used to from Ministry. We’re tired is probably the best one on the album, Wargasm and Antifa are worth the mention as well, the other ones you can skip , they feel too much as a filler.
Well, this is by far not the best Ministry album at all, some songs come close to Psalm 69 , that’s true and that’s all. Al you can do much better than this. Like the bio said, Al is angry, very angry at the world, well, lyrically he is but musically I miss this. Listen for yourselves , do not expect too much though.
