Fit For An Autopsy – The Nothing That Is

Fit For An Autopsy don't need any introduction, but for those who lived under a rock the past decade: Fit For An Autopsy is an American deathcore band formed in 2008. After releasing their fifth album 'The Sea Of Tragic Beasts' back in 2019, they really reached the top in brutality. It was filthy, brutal and devastating. So what's next ? Evolving, or making the same album again and again ? They choose the first with the release of 'Oh What The Future Holds'. The brutal aspect was there, but it evolved to a more mature sound that I compared with Gojira in my review back t hen. And now they're back with 'The Nothing That Is'. Let's have a look, shall we.

After one spin of this record, I realized that they combined two albums together. The brutal aspect of ‘The Sea Of Tragic Beasts’ and the mature sound of ‘Oh What The Future Holds.’ They open this album with ‘Hostage’ that has a brutal opening but don’t be deceived by the opening because it has some clean vocals with a catchy chorus. And catchy in the deathcore meaning of the word. Don’t be afraid of the clean vocals, just listen what they did with it, just like in their album ‘Oh What The Future Holds.’ If you like that album, you will definitely like this song as well.

Like I said before it’s a mixture of their 2 previous albums which you hear in the brutal ‘Spoils Of The Horde’ but yet again they create a sound within the song that goes back to ‘Oh What The Future Holds.’ Next up we have ‘Savior Of None – Ashes Of All’ that goes back to the ‘Sea Of Tragic Beasts’ era but again mixed with some ‘Oh What The Future Holds’ ingredients. Combining these two albums is the best thing they could ever do. For those who didn’t like what they did on ‘Oh What The Future Holds’ the next one called ‘Weaker Wolves’ could be something for you. With ‘Red Horizon’ they really reached the jackpot, evolving and using more technical riffs and moving forward. And of course the Gojira influences.

The second part of the album is creating more stuff of what they did on ‘Oh What The Future Holds.’ I know that I’m repeating myself a lot, but it’s just so you would understand they will not make a ‘The Sea Of Tragic Beasts 2.0.’ If that is what you want, then sorry, just move ahead and leave this one aside. But if you love what they did on ‘Oh What The Future Holds’ well then you will love this. ‘The Nothing That Is’ goes further where ‘Red Horizon’ has stopped. ‘Lurch and Lower Purpose’ are creating a doorway for what the end has in stock for us. ‘Lust For The Severed Head’ has the technical riffs we talked about but ending we do with the beautiful ‘The Silver Sun’ which is the absolute epos of this album. The longest song of this album but also the best part of this album that shows us what I am screaming at the beginning of this album. Fit For An Autopsy has evolved to a state-of-the-art band. The future looks brighter than ever.

I really believe that the next album of Fit For An Autopsy will be yet again an absolute masterpiece. Yes, they evolved to a greater being. They are ready to headlining their own show in big venues and large events, but it’s not up to me. I hope they give these guys a chance to write their own Parkway Drive/Gojira page.
