This album is untouchable. Starting off I feel like I was cleansed after listening to the intro (and title) track of “Baptize”. It was quite the experience! And the throat singing in the background adds another level to the experience I already felt like I was having! I haven’t heard anything quite like this before. Not to worry though, it doesn’t take long to get into heavy riffs and driven lyrics. Atreyu is nothing short of badass in their latest release and they’re here to stay!

Right off the bat I’ve got to say that when these guys perform this new stuff live, I’m kind of excited but nervous to see just how big of a pit they can get to open up! (I’d like to quickly point out that we will ALL be able to see them soon in the US as live music is finally getting to be up and running again and they’re going on tour with Crown The Empire later this year!) Anyway, their song “Underrated” is going to be one of the songs off of “Baptize” that’s going to get the crowd AMPED. The guitar riffs and lyrics that are pumped through the speakers are bound to wind up being chanted and repeated in your head after listening to this song, even just once.

One wicked thing about Atreyu is that, although they originally formed in 1998, they sound so fresh and new. Their sound has formed to the times seamlessly and it shows. I’m often impressed with the talent bands have to be able to stay current and popular as time comes and goes! Another thing that impresses me is when a band can take an entire album and make it something you can listen to from beginning to end, straight through. I’m happy to say that I truly believe no matter what mood you’re in, this can be achieved. Baptize has a good mix of songs that serve as a “I can take on the world!” vibes on the high days or “I am going to make it through” on the not so good days.

Their song “Baptize” is one of the songs that serves a purpose for both the good and bad days with heavy riffs, chanting “I’ve been living in darkness all my life beaten, broken, brutalized. Tell me how do I make it out alive? Wash away my sins. Baptize! BAPTIZE!” leave the past in the past and make your life YOURS! Of course you’ve also got one of their singles “SAVE US” which was conveniently released during the crazy year of 2020 when everyone was on the brink of insanity due to the chaos surrounding them, this song swept in and acted as a mantra to get back up on our feet and fight because if WE don’t, who the hell will?! Don’t be complacent!

I cannot express just how much of a (*chef’s kiss*) brilliant piece of work Baptize is. The guys truly did amazing! They don’t slack on anything from passion, vocals, riffs or overall sound. There’s a perfect balance so it’s not leaning towards too heavy or not heavy enough. It’s also good to mention that Travis Barker makes a nice guest appearance on the song “Warrior” at the end of the album. There is also a guest appearance from Matt Heafy of Trivium in the song “Oblivion” and last but not least Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach takes part in their song Untouchable!
