First and same titled song ‘Voyage of the Dead Marauder‘ starts off with the sound of a hurdy gurdy, played by Patty Gurdy. While lead singer Christopher Bowes sings the verses, Patty sings the chorus in her clean and high voice. The pre-chorus gives the song extra power with the screams of keyboardist Elliot Vernon. The song sounds amazing with the classic pirate metal Alestorm sound, together with some clean and rough touches from Patty and Elliot. This sounds promising for the upcoming album!
‘Uzbekistan’ starts off fast and serious. After half a minute, the pirate sounds come in and you’re in for a party together with the pirates of Uzbekistan. Oh yeah, don’t forget the highly danceable breakdown halfway the song. This will be a great song to hear live.
‘The Last Saskatchewan Pirate’ says acoustic guitar by a fireplace where everybody sits around the guitarist and listens and sings along. That’s for the intro. Then the acoustic guitar turns electric, but the party vibe stays. A fun songs that needs to be listened to with a pint of beer.
An 8-bit sound welcomes you at ‘Sea Shanty 2′. This song is an instrumental track that sounds like someone is on a spring stroll, accompanied by pirates on electric guitar and elves on flute. Last track ‘Cock’ is great fun with it’s swear words. It’s short, simple and will get stuck in your head very fast.
And with that, we are already through the new EP. It’s a classical Alestorm sound; meaning that it’s fun, great pirate metal and ready to party! I’m ready for the full album, are you?
