In the opening track “Ceremonial Flesh Feast” the band lost none of its bludgeoning force as the blasting drums and the riffing engage in endless rumbling, the riffs are pulled straight from the grimy catacombs. The quartet evokes the classic simplistic style of death metal throwing some infectious rhythms and the drums seem to get heavier and faster. The band’s super lineup includes some renowned musicians in the death metal scene such as drummer Seth Traver (Cemetery Lust), lead guitarist Tony Thomas (Witch Vomit, Dagger Lust), vocalist and bassist Jason (Witch Vomit), and guitarist Pierce Williams (Ænigmatum, Pusrot, and Skeletal Remains).

Although the band has shown some potential in their past albums like “Barbaric Persecution” and “Malefic Humiliation” Torture Rack achieved a great deal of fruition in their EP “Pit of Limbs”. But having members of Witch Vomit and Skeletal Remains in their ranks, you should expect a badass death metal record. The majority of the tracks on “Primeval Onslaught” are relatively short, but there is some incredible delivery from the drums in a number of tracks like “Decrepit Funeral Home” which is another gut-wrenching piece of old-school death metal.

The spiteful and guttural vocals are deep and barbarous and littered with fast-paced tempos, almost every track is extremely delivered with unmatched brutality. The churning riffs on songs like “Forced from the Pit” is noteworthy for the use of the tremolos and the drumming work is fabulously tight in delivering spontaneous double bass drums and there are plenty of blast beats. When compared to the predecessor, Torture Rack managed to sound decipherable, regardless of the short duration of the songs they are littered with fast-pummeling drums. The riffing style brings back memories of Morbid Angel’s classic album “Covenant”. The musicianship is flawless, and the vocals are as brutal and organic as they offer an extremely fast, breakneck performance on the album’s shortest track “Morning Star Massacre”.

While other songs like “Victims of Inquisitors” emphasizes the slower pace and the classic no-frills riffage constantly pushing the straight old-school brutality. The guttural grunts perfectly match the tone of the guitars, especially in the middle section of the songs, when the grisly gory rhythms remain as tight. “Bone Snare” pummels in by intense blast beats tempo and the blood-spattering riffs perfectly swerved to crush the skull with the grisly old school fashioned riffs.

“Fucked by Death” engages in an intense dose of rampant violence, giving it an old-school aspect that highlights the speed of the drums and the semi-punk influences in its guitar riffs. “Impalement Storm” starts with evil-sounding Morbid Angel-like riffs, and the brutal chugging riff is ultimately devastating. The song builds on slow mid-tempos, but the drumming here is absolutely incredible and bolstered by catchy rhythms and tremolo riffs. “Primeval Onslaught” is measured by the fierce drumming style, semi-technical guitar work, and excellent double bass drum fills scattered throughout the duration of twenty-six minutes. Although this might be the only drawback of this magnificent album, the cover art could have also been better.

The remaining two songs “Descent To Infernal Chasm” and “Rotting Insignificance” delivers some constant chugging and a slew of tremolo riffs, and while the brutality is on display here the top-notch drumming work alternates between mid-tempo and insane upbeats. The mid-paced closure track maintains a densely packed atmosphere driven by the intense level of precision, with riffs oozing ominous malefic rhythms and balancing the slow chugging riffs.
