Ice Nine Kills – The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood!

If you thought The Silver Scream was good, get ready to be thrilled by this newest release from Ice Nine Kills! The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood is a complete BANGER. From start to finish, this is a complete experience, beginning with a gentle intro feeding into some hardcore breakdowns.

Over the course of The Silver Scream and this newest release, Ice Nine Kills brings life to some of the most iconic horror themes known, such as A Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween, Child\’s Play, and Psycho, as well as many more. Not only this, but Ice Nine Kills uses the music videos to allow for a twisted story line to develop which points fingers at the front-man of Ice Nine Kills as being responsible for murder. I don\’t want to give too much away, so you\’ll have to go listen/watch, and see for yourself.

On top of the creativity, I love how Ice Nine Kills always pays such good attention to the little details in their songs. One example of this is in the song \”Funeral Derangements\”, themed after Stephen King\’s classic Pet Sematary. You\’ve got a little boys voice in the background saying \”I played with mommy, now I want to play with you\”; this represents Gage, the son from the movie. Right after this you\’ve got such a viciously delicious breakdown. The first time listening to this song, I got so many chills as I heard Spencer Charnas growl \”The wrath of god lays beneath this soil\”, and then the next line \”The flesh is living but the souls have spoiled\” being screamed. This is definitely one of favorite song off of the album; the lyrics, heavy music, and even the freaking music video… *chefs kiss*. These guys really outdid themselves!

\”Take Your Pick\”, themed after \”My Bloody Valentine\”, made my soul leave my body. This song deserves a moment, because it is just THAT heavy. [*pauses*] Corpsegrinder (Cannibal Corpse) was perfect for this. Spencer Charnas has a great growl, but Corpsegrinder packs something special into his. Hearing these guys on the same song is almost too much to handle. You\’ve got the deep growls, followed by the higher screams; the breakdown in this song was so heavy, it literally made me forget to breathe. Not to mention the heavy, and speedy drums played by Patrick Galante, as well as Dan Sugarman\’s gnarly guitar solo! I was NOT ready; silly me. It makes my heart race just thinking about this song. It\’s tastefully BRUTAL.

The last song I chose to point out is probably between the aforementioned. \”The Shower Scene\” is themed after the iconic Alfred Hitchcock\’s (whom Spencer sees as the Godfather of slasher films, to which I agree) movie \”Psycho\”. This song has a gnarly breakdown too, but the first time I listened to this song, the chorus instantly got stuck in my head and I kept singing it over and over. I love how they put this song together; it\’s heavy but also melodic.

There are SO many great songs, hardcore breakdowns, and beautifully done choruses. I could go on and on. Along with their insane music and creativity, they also brought so many cool cameos and features in their songs! For example, in \”Funeral Derangements\”, they\’ve got Miko Hughes who played the original Gage in the 1989 version of Pet Sematary. They also have Bill Moseley (House of 1000 Corpses, The Devils Rejects), Josh Katz (Vocalist for Badflower), Jacoby Shaddix (Vocalist for Papa Roach) among many other fun additions. However, let\’s not forget a huge part of the music videos, and the plot of the albums, Nadia Teichmann. She is Spencer\’s victim, I mean girlfriend, and the real MVP. If you know, you know!

I don\’t want to sound like the other people who, every time an album comes out, say \”this is album of the year\” and move on. I truly believe this will be, and SHOULD be! 10/10 they hit the nail on the head while putting a little bit of something for everyone. Kudos, Ice Nine Kills.

Do yourselves a favor and go check out The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood, it\’s a killer time!
