It's almost time for the second edition of Hellsinki Metal Festival! Just like last year, they have a stellar line-up with both foreign and Finnish bands that will please any lover of metal music. But with a bit under 20 bands every day spread over 3 stages, what should you definitely not miss? So here we are with what we'd highly recommend to go and see on day 1:

Wolfheart (Hellsinki - 01)

(14:15-15:00)

The mainstage will get a proper kick-off with the Finnish metal icons of Wolfheart taking over the stage. Tuomas Saukkonen and his mates will deliver as usual a crushing show with their signature music that is both relentless and beautiful. Over the years, the band has steadily grown into a staple of the Finnish music scene and they’re not showing any signs of slowing down. Right now, they’re wrapping up their ‘King of the North‘ album cycle just before they get to releasing their brand-new album ‘Draconian Darkness‘ for yet another serving of their “winter metal”. A great way to start your festival weekend, if you ask us.

Terrorizer (Helsinki -02)

(15:00-15:45)

Throughout the whole Hellsinki Metal weekend, we have an unbeliviable array of top notch extreme metal, one of them being American death metal/grindcore legends Terrorizer on the Friday. Last year we saw I Am Morbid with original Morbid Angel members David Vincent and Commando whom will again take the stage with another metal giant. This is truly a special treat for any fans of fast and loud music.

Gutalax (Hellsinki - 03)

(15:00 - 15-45)

Looking to have some real proper fun? Don’t look no further, because Gutalax is here. The live shows of these Czech goregrind scumbags have become stuff for legends. You can expect toiletbrushes in the air, flying toiletpaper rolls and possibly even a crowdsurfing porter potty to go along with their toilet humor riddled songs. So strap on that white overall and get ready to get shitfaced!

Triumph of Death performing Hellhammer (Hellsinki 02)

(17:00 - 18:00)

Hellhammer founded in 1982 were around for only two years releasing a few demos which posthumously became cult classics. But they never have performed live. Now with the original Tom G Warrior, also known from Celtic Frost, will be performing classic Hellhammer songs live which is something you simply must see, especially if you’re any bit a fan of extreme metal and since this is the only way of really experiencing Hellhammer classics live.

Massacre (Hellsinki 03)

(18:00 - 18:45)

Instantly after Hellhammer, we suggest hauling ass to the inside stage where another American death metal legends from the 80’s are performing. Reformed in 2019 this lineup now consists of two Massacre originals Kam Lee on vocals and Michael Borders on bass. If Terrorizer and Hellhammer weren’t enough of to fulfill your need for extreme metal, I highly recommend going to check these guys out, you won’t regret it!

Deicide (Hellsinki 02)

(19:00 - 20:00)

By far maybe the most anticipated act of the whole day if not the whole festival is the almighty Deicide who are finally playing in Finland after years of cancellations. This band needs no introductions hence I will just leave with this. If you are in any shape or form a fan of extreme music, go see Deicide, it will blow you away and melt your face. I for one will be there!

Heaven Shall Burn (Hellsinki - 01)

(20:00 - 21:15)

If you’re any bit into metalcore, you simply can’t skip on seeing these German legends of the metalcore scene. Heaven Shall Burn has been around for decades and continues to be one of the most consistently impressive and high quality bands around. Live they absolutely crush it every single time and they’ll set the stage on fire, possibly quite literally, with their high energy performance!

Avantasia (Hellsinki - 01)

(22:30 - 00:00)

The headliner of the first day of Hellsinki Metal 2024 is quite the name! It’s a rather unique sighting to get to see Avantasia on a stage, and last time they made it to Finland was probably when they played at Tuska over half a decade ago now. As usual, Tobias Sammet will be bringing a whole line-up of guest vocalists with him to bring one of the most epic and feel-good shows of the weekend probably! Do yourself a favor and go see this musical exellence live!
