Last year I discovered (just like many others) the American industrial metal/rock outfit 3teeth with their latest release ‘Metawar’ that came out through a major label for the first time. Their harsh industrial sound and political message is very reminiscent of the glory days of the genre with bands like Ministry, Nine Inch Nails and old school Marilyn Manson. Much to my surprise, the band got booked for two shows in Finland through Tuska Live. So there wasn’t much hesitation from my side to attend their Helsinki stop for some good pounding…
Khroma (***1/2)
To get the crowd warmed up, they booked the local industrial groove metal outfit Khroma. Not knowing these guys in advance, I was curious how their music was going to hold up against the harsh sound of the main act. And they did quite adequately so… their ferociousness and harshness reminded me somewhat of the pounding you get every time you get to see a Godflesh show. Every single member of Khroma was showing a level of energy that only added to the feverish atmosphere that was building up within the venue. A pretty great start of the night, a perfect act to warm us up for what was still to come, looking forward to seeing more of these guys soon since they’ll be playing at for instance Tuska festival coming summer!
3teeth (****1/2)
At first it seemed no one was showing up really for this modern industrial act, but by the time 3teeth got on stage they were greeted by a very decently filled up room. And straight from the start, we were greeted with a similar pounding as we got from the opening’s act. Just with a way more charming frontman under the form of Alexis Mincolla with his ever present sunglasses. The whole energy and professionalism on stage was adamant and at first we got to headbang and dance away to the tunes of about half of their latest release ‘Metawar‘ before they threw a decent slab of their older work at us. Flashing lights, pounding beats, harsh electronics and an enigmatic frontman getting the crowd to eat from his hands, all elements that turned this night into one to remember. From the reactions of the crowd to their very first visit in Finland, it was clear to 3teeth that they have to come back more in the future. And we won’t be complaining about that!
